For a girl with a pretty basic summer style profile [it gets v. hot!], I spend a lot of time curating my accessory, shoe, and makeup moods. White linen button downs, shift dresses, and a wide assortment of strappy sandals need to be spiced up with your unique touch, ya know? When I stopped overlooking my makeup routine, the whole summer style picture started coming together. This summer I’m all about a signature red lip, a wash of color on the eyes, and a 5 minute daytime routine that has minimum melt and maximum glow [among other vibes]. Let’s dive in and see where the beauty current is carrying me this summer →
flirty 4 happy hour
One of my most worn makeup vibes is the oh! so! classic! red lip [even better if it’s complemented by monochromatic touches across the rest of the face]. Sunset happy hours are screaming for a signature red lip combo. My favorite for years has been Spice It Up! from MAC. It’s a gorgeous brown berry red and the lustre glass sheer shine formula doesn’t dry out lips — essential for me. This summer, I want to dabble in the red orange color range. Think: a coral flush on the cheek or warm red brown shades on the eye.
watercolor lids
I’m wondering if there is anything better than freshly sliced watermelon cubes from the farmer’s market; even better if you can source some papaya or kiwi. A vibrant fruit salad and a cool, crisp glass of orange wine sounds like genuine perfection. It’s also the direct inspiration for my palette of ideal eyeshadow colors. I was telling Becca that “the coolest people I know love a wash of pastel eyeshadow on the lid” for my edition of thirteen things for
. Matcha green eyelids before noon and cobalt blue for the club — in a sea of neutrals, be bold!sunkissed soft glam
Early sunset dinners call for mastering the art of the bronzed soft glam base routine. The super viral Saie Glowy Super Gel in Sunglow is an essential (mix with your moisturizer prep step for a natural sunkissed glow). For makeup that needs to last in the summer heat, stack your base products with a cream and powder formula. Powder bronzers and blushes that give radiance while minimizing the disco ball grease effect, yes please! Ample melanin and spf protect me from sun damage and sunburn (#blessed), but I do love a terracotta or brown berry blush to mimic the look of a day spent under a high uv index.
